In Memory of Gary Harris - Managing Director
4 November 1944 to 3 December 2013

Jesmond
Gary's contracting career spanned 40 years, ploughing his first paddock at the age of 8 years.
Gary left school and the family dairy farm to work for his Uncle's earthmoving business during the summer and managing his billiard and snooker saloon in winter.
Gary worked for Neil Construction as Site Supervisor in the early days and founded HEB Drainage in 1975 to successfully complete subdivisions and roading projects.
Gary and Dianne sold HEB Drainage in 1984 and Gary became a successful Thoroughbred Race Horse Trainer but with the decline in the racing industry, went back to civil construction founding Jesmond Construction Ltd in 1994 employing their son Dean Harris, teaching him drain laying and general civil works and Tania Jones, their daughter who has grown with the business managing the office and health & safety.
Since 1994 the company have built up a reputation of completing very diverse projects and with over 390 projects on their c.v. Gary has left behind a legacy of honesty, integrity and a work ethic second to none.
Dianne Harris has now taken over as Director and with the Management Team of Tania Jones, Colin Woolliams and Piet Botma, Jesmond Construction is set for another 20 years of completing diverse projects in the Auckland area.

    Introducing Colin Woolliams - Contracts Manager

    National Diploma Surveying Level 6 (10 years working for a survey & design company), Order of St John Work Place First Aid, Transit NZ Level 1,2,3 Site Traffic Management Supervisor/TC, Sutherlands Environmental Performance Training of good environmental management practices in the contracting industry, Summit Systems Confined Space Training.

    Project Manager on site, in charge of survey and set out, the daily management of Jesmond employees and sub contractors. Colin has recently managed the VDB Retail Development on the corner of Te Irirangi Drive and Great South Road, Manukau City. This $5.9 million contract, over a two year period encompassed everything from initial demolition, site set out and survey, excavation of some 43,000m3 materials, construction of two basement car parks, roading, car parks, drainage, all services, lighting, landscaping and the upgrade of Great South Road, Manukau with the installation of traffic lights. Colin has shown he is totally competent in managing a project as this project was a lump sum project and it came in on time within budget.


    Introducing Piet Botma - Project Manager

    Trade Certificate in Engineering, BHP NZ Steel Apprentice of the Year, Private Pilots License (helicopter), Commercial Pilots License (helicopter).

    Piet has a wide range of experience in various facets of engineering including repairs, maintenance and manufacturing. He has a natural interest in all things mechanical and what makes them function. He is very mechanically minded with an eye for detail.

    Piet joined Jesmond Construction bringing attributes with him such as welding, machining, hydraulics and pneumatics as well as problem solving skills.

    Already Piet has fitted into the Jesmond Construction management structure offering a wealth of knowledge in employee relations with practical resolutions.

    Introducing Tania Jones - Health & Safety Manager

    NZIHT Certificale of Accounting for Engineers & Manager, Order of St John Work Place First Aid Certificate in Implimenting the Health & Safety In Employment Act 1992 in the work place, Certificate Health & Safety Regulations 1995 & Guidelines, Critical Issues for Safety in the Workplace (NZ Safety Ltd), Summit Systems Safety Manager Training & Certification, NZIM Managing Workplace Health & Safety, Confined Space Certification Manukau Consultancy, Institute Strategic Leadership Workshop, Sutherlands Environmental Performance Training of Good Environmental Management Practices in the Contracting Industry.

    Responsible for Health & Safety on site, identifying all hazards and what controls are to be put in place and monitored, inductions of employees and sub-contractors and liaison with residents in the immediate area. Tania with the help of Jillian, will also look after the office back up; tracking all expenses on the job to make sure the project stays financially on track. Tania has worked for Jesmond Construction in the capacity of Health & Safety Manager for the past 16 years, holding monthly H&S meetings with all employees, putting forward the H&S management plans and running site inductions with employees, sub-contractors and consultants. In this time Jesmond Construction have achieved the ACC WPSM Secondary Level once when first audited in 2002 and since then have achieved the ACC WPSM Tertiary Level five times, (audited biannually) the last audit being 11 June 2012.


    Introducing Dean Harris - Drain Layer/Concrete Foreman

    Authorised licensed Manukau Water - Sanitary Sewer 1-4, Stormwater 1-4, Water Supply 102T & currently has two papers to complete for NZQA Level C Water/Waste Water Reticulation, Order of St John Work Place First Aid, Confined Space Certification - Danger Zone, Confined Space Manukau Consultancy/Summit Systems, Certified Ramset Gun Operator.

    During the 16 years working for Jesmond Construction, Dean has become an excellent drain layer and pump station builder having his pipelines pass council inspections the first time, everytime. Dean has recently finished laying all the sewage, and stormwater pipelines at the 85 lot Patumahoe Subdivision for Searle Holdings and prior to that Dean and his team completed 1300lm of 150-600dia stormwater, 3900lm subsoil, 500lm waste water and 200lmm water main drainage with all water main connections, benching, etc for the VDB Retail Development 645 Great South Road Manukau City.
